What is Nanomedicine ?
"Nanomedicine" as a field of applied science and medicine:
"Nanomedicine: The application of the nanosciences and nanotechnologies in healthcare, to the benefit of individuals and society". In today's medical diagnostics, nanoparticle-based analytic techniques have become indispensible tools, for example gold nanoparticles widely used in pregnancy tests and in rapid tests for poverty diseases in developing countries, as well as analyzer devices embedding "nanopore" structures used for rapid genomic analysis. "Nanomedicines" as a spectrum of therapeutic agents in which nanoscale structural features, size-related properties, or supramolecular mechanisms are critical for their function. This includes, for example, nanoscale micelles, vesicles, particles, functional molecular assemblies. Nanomedicines have proven their value in drug delivery for cancer and other fields. They have had an essential part in rendering the COVID vaccines efficacious, thereby saving estimated 20 millions lives during the pandemic. |
There is an interdisciplinary global community, interdisciplinary international conferences, and journals focused on translating the fascinating sciences to practically realizable benefits for individuals and society.
